Festival stunned by Iraq war film !

Director Brian De Palma has stunned the Venice Film Festival with his harrowing new film about the horrors of the Iraq war.
Redacted is billed as a "fictional story inspired by true events", following a group of US soldiers stationed in Iraq who rape a teenage girl and slaughter her family.
It is based on the notorious real-life incident in Mahmudiya, south of Baghdad, in which soldiers raped a 14-year-old schoolgirl before setting her body alight and shooting dead her parents and five-year-old sister. Other events retold on film include the fatal shooting of a pregnant Iraqi woman at a military checkpoint as her brother was driving her to hospital.
And in one graphic scene shot in the style of an al Qaida internet video, a sobbing US soldier is beheaded.
The film, shot in stark high definition video, is arranged as a montage of films shot from differing viewpoints - a home movie made by one of the soldiers, a website run by the wives of military personnel and Arab TV reports. It ends with a montage of real-life photographs of Iraqi war victims, including maimed and dead women and children. The final picture is an image of the real-life 14-year-old rape victim.
De Palma cast relatively unknown actors as the Army recruits and filmed on location in Jordan.
The director said he hoped seeing such images would alert Americans to the truth of what is going on in Iraq. Until now these images have been censored, he claimed.
Speaking in Venice, the director of Scarface, The Untouchables and Mission: Impossible said: "The movie is an attempt to bring the reality of what's happening in Iraq to the American people.
"Unlike Vietnam, when we saw the destruction and sorrow of the people we were maiming and killing, and soldiers coming home in body bags, we see none of that in this war. It's all out there on the internet, you can find it if you look for it, but it's not in the mainstream media. The media is now part of the corporate establishment. The terrible thing about this war is we don't see these images, we don't have these stories."
De Palma made a 1989 film, Casualties of War, about atrocities in Vietnam.

The initial attack on Iraq was one of the most devastating assaults in modern warfare. In the first 24 hours more than 1,500 bombs and missiles were dropped on Baghdad.
During the conflict A10 "tankbuster" planes ? which use munitions containing depleted uranium? fired 300,000 rounds. Al Jazeera reported that invading US forces fired two hundred tons of radio active material into buildings, homes, streets and gardens in Baghdad alone.

A reporter from the 'Christian Science Monitor 'took a Geiger counter to parts of Baghdad that had been subjected to heavy shelling by U.S. troops. He found radiation levels 1,000 to 1,900 times higher than normal in residential areas.

One unconfirmed estimate suggests the total tonnage of DU used could be about 1,500 tons across Iraq as a whole, five times more than was used in the 1991 Gulfwar. There is considerable evidence that DU has continued to be used, not only as a battlefield weapon as inthe First Gulf War, but increasingly in urban areas throughout Iraq in the occupation forces battles against the Resistance. When asked if he thought that DU weapons operate in a similar manner as a dirty bomb Marion Falk, a retired chemical physicist who worked on nuclear bombs at Lawrence Livermore Lab said, "That's exactly what they are. They fit the description of a dirty bomb in every way
I would say that it is the perfect weapon for killing lots of people."

An impacting DU missile burns at 10,000ºC. 30% of the shell fragments into shrapnel, with the remaining 70% vaporizing into three highly toxic oxides, including uranium oxide. Its target is left covered in black dust, while further particles remain suspended in the air and can travel over great distances according to wind and weather.

The impact of one 120mm DU shellfired from an American Abrams tank creates between 900 and 3,400 grams (roughly 2 to 7 pounds) of uraniumoxide dust. 52to 83% of these particles are insoluble in lung fluids.

Once inhaled this radioactive vapor can mutate 35% of cells in surrounding tissue. Reporting from Iraq before the invasion in October 2002, Felicity Arbuthnot visited the Al Mansour Children's Hospital in Baghdad. Doctors there told her that slow motion nuclear weapons had been used on Iraq during the first Gulf War. Cases of child cancers and leukemia seemed to have a common denominator;they all came from heavily bombarded areas.

Dr Ali, doctor in charge at the Al Mansour, estimated a five fold rise in child cancers since the first Gulf War: ?though since we are not allowed the scientific facilities to implement a proper investigation and statistical survey, we have no proof.?

He said that between 1978 and 1992 there were two hundred and seventy cancer and leukemia cases recorded at the Al Mansour. Between November 1992 and 2002 the hospital had recorded 1,714 cases.

Dr. JananGhalib Hassan, a neonatalogist at the Women and Children's Hospital in Basra, said that in 2001, 611 babies were born with no limbs, no eyes or other birth defects, compared with 37 such cases in 1990. The area where the children were born was subjected to heavy shelling with DU munitions in the first Gulf War.

By sending and assigning the emissaries ? prophets and messengers - along with the righteous individuals, and on top of that, by providing and utilizing the mankind with the gifts of intellect and human nature, they are guided in the right path ? in order to achieve the complete perfection. The human generations ? one after another ? were not created to live in anguish, intimidation, skirmish, aggression, oppression, and misery. And without enjoying an amity and fraternity atmosphere - replete of love and justice ? depart this life and leave it for the next generations.

The philosophy of human creation is: reaching the pinnacle of bliss, construction of immaculate life, efflorescence of all potentialities and talents, implementation of justice and devotion across the world amongst all human beings. This is one of the definite Divine promises that when the world is filled with oppression and enmity by the tyrants and oppressors, it will become full of justice by the reappearance of the promised Savior. In occupied Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa, and South America and even in Europe and North America, due to the interests of despotic dominant rulers? parties and clans and also for filling up their pockets, the dignity, benevolence, peace and tranquility of the human beings have been taken to abattoir and slaughtered. And then, lie and deception are positioned for honesty and truth.

Many peoples are exasperated from the present situation of the world. And they have come to the conclusion that the existed procedure, method and technique can not provide tranquilly and peace to the mankind.

Frankly, if Jesus Christ ? the Messiah (peace be upon Him) was present today, how would He react? And whom would He stand with and against?

If Jesus Christ (peace be upon Him) was present today, he would order an encounter against those who would propagate corruption, obscenity and perversion, and try to nullify and exterminate the merits and the rights of women and diminish their position ? a position that virgin Mary (peace be upon Her) ? is their role model and sample.

If Jesus Christ (peace be upon Him) was present today, He would order a contention against those who try to discharge the world from morality, spirituality, intellectuality, justice, and peace. And accordingly, the true followers of the Divine Prophets would follow their steps in regard to strengthening the morality, intellectuality, spirituality, peace and justice in the world.

Although last year was accompanied with many injustices, aggressions, and many violation of rights, but the calls and outcries of begging and imploring from God and demanding justice were louder. Day by day, nations would realize the power of faith and godliness. They would go for peace and justice more than before and give a positive answer to the Divine prophets? sermons and would tell to their Creator ? Almighty God "Here am I!" Praise the Lord!

The same way that Jesus Christ (peace be upon Him) invited the people to goodness and perfection, and also avoid them from evil, atrocity and aggression, His true followers do the same. With the belief in God and the Hereafter, they are frontiers in righteousness.

Certainly, the implementation of the Divine Prophets? commands and directions would reform and improve our lives in this world and would safeguard a satisfying afterlife conjunctionally.

We believe that the beloved Jesus Christ ? the Messiah (peace be upon Him and His Mother) would also reappear for the fulfillment of the promises of all the Divine prophets.
